Our loving mother, Karen Marlene Freeman, age 76 of Vestal, NY, passed away May 23, 2020, in the comfort of her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Ethel Osterweil, and her brother, Sheldon. Karen was born July 14, 1943 in Newark NJ. She grew up in Newark, NJ graduated from Weequahic High School in 1961. She fulfilled her life’s mission of helping others by providing better hearing as a Hearing Care Provider for over 45 years. She moved to Binghamton in 1982 and opened her business in the Southern Tier Community . A pioneer in her field, she served on many state and local professional boards and volunteered. Throughout her life, she provided many people with love and support. She was a friend of Bill W. for more than 30 years. She took great joy in spending time with her great-granddaughter and was looking forward to meeting her new great-grandson, but was unable to due to the pandemic. She held close to her holidays and traditions. Karen is survived by her sons, Hal and Eric (Beth) Freeman, her grandchildren, Braden, Kelsey, Jacob, Abrahm, and Paul, and her great-grandchildren, Raelynn and Octavian. In addition to a host of cousins and friends, she leaves behind lifelong friends, Sue, Linda, Ronnie, Cindy, and Kerri. Private graveside services will be held at Temple Israel Cemetery with Rabbi Barbra Goldman-Wartell officiating.. A celebration of Karen’s life will be held for family and friends at a later date. In place of flowers, a loving donation can be made in Karen’s name to the Make a Wish Foundation, 5005 Campuswood Dr, East Syracuse, NY 13057. To forward condolences please visit www.demunn.com.
