Edith M. (Correll) Gardner of Binghamton, NY – 95 passed away unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, April 23, 2024. She was the Matriarch of her loving parents Walter/Lillian Correll.
She is predeceased by her husband Donald E. Gardner of 66 years. She is also predeceased by seven sisters and brothers: Mary Ellen Correll, Marie Correll, Grace (Irene) Rockwell, Jean Jeavons, Floyd Correll, Richard Correll, Nelson Correll, and her loving cousin Beverly Stachura. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Donna Turnbull and Laurie McDaniel. Also survived by Wayne McDaniel, which she considered him the closes thing to a “son”, along with his significant other Mary Geotz. And Gary Clark whom she was very fond of. She is also survived my several nieces and nephews.
Edith graduated from Binghamton North High School and was involved in numerous activities. After high school Edith married her high school sweetheart Donald. For years Edith was a stay-at-home mom raising her two girls. When the girls were grown enough, Edith was employed at General Electric for 27 years. After retirement Edith and Donald went on several cruises and other land trips, mostly with her cousin Beverly and her husband Joseph. She loved to go to the beach and spent precious time with family at Virginia Beach, Brigantine Beach, and Ocean City, Maryland.
Edith loved life. She loved to do things on the spur of the moment, she was spontaneous. She loved to party. She loved dressing up for Halloween and going to parties at the American Legion Halloween parties or having Halloween, Valentines, Christmas, Easter and birthday parties with her aerobics family. She was a member of an aerobic class with the same members for years, and fondly referred to them as her aerobic family. She loved to dance, whether she was line dancing or square dancing with Donald, she was the last one off the dance floor. She loved to read, shop, and play pinochle. She loved to eat and was very conscientious of eating healthy. She used to take a two mile walk every day (rain or shine) for years with a neighbor.
Edith loved to watch the Young and the Restless with her can of Coors Light and a small bag of Doritos. She also liked to watch Wheel of Fortune, Judge Judy, Perry Mason, FOX NEWS and a good round of golf on Sundays. Edith was our mother and we loved her with all our hearts and we will miss her until the end of time.
