Walter Rekort

August 22, 1929 — December 11, 2024

Walter Rekort, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, at the age of 95. He was born on August 22, 1929, in Coney Island, New York. Walt lived a life marked by service, creativity, and devotion to family.

He proudly served as a submariner in the United States Navy during the Korean War era. Following his military service, he worked as an electrical engineer for General Electric for many years. Walt built a rich life with his late wife, Doris, with whom he enjoyed traveling along the East Coast. Walt and Doris also enjoyed their time together at their cabin on Thunder Lake.

Walt was an avid hobbyist. He especially enjoyed chess and woodworking. He was  a talented artisan, known for creating award-winning bird carvings and delighting his grandchildren with handcrafted wooden toys.

Walt was predeceased by his beloved wife, Doris Rekort; his brother, Bernard Rekort; and his sister Shirley Grill. He leaves behind his devoted daughter, Patricia (David) Tye; his son, Steven (Cindy) Rekort; and his cherished grandchildren: Aaron (Cindy) Tye, Ethan (Samantha) Tye, and Ellen Tye. He was delighted to meet his great-granddaughter, Adelaide Tye.
