Walter C. “Walt” Hein, 94, of Vestal passed away on May 9, 2024. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Freda, and parents, Kurt and Elizabeth Hein. Walter is survived by his sons, Steven (Fran) Hein of Longmont, Colorado and W. Charles “Chuck” (Teri) Hein Jr. of Vestal, treasured granddaughters Jennifer (Greg) Costantino of Newtown, Connecticut and Stacey Hein of Binghamton. In addition, he is survived by great-grandchildren Jonathan, Joseph, and Anthony Costantino of Newtown, Connecticut as well as sister-in-law, Dianna Dudar of Vestal and several nieces and nephews.
Walter will be remembered as a caring and loving father and grandfather. He was born in New York City, raised in the Bronx and eventually relocated to upstate New York with his parents. Walt was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving his country during the Korean War. He spent his career as the co-owner of K. Hein Machines in Vestal. Walt was an avid skier and longtime member of the Triple Cities Ski Club. He enjoyed backpacking most of the 46ers in the Adirondacks with his sons. He loved to go boating, fishing, and traveling the country in his motorhome with his wife, Freda. He will be greatly missed.
