Van Murray was born November 19th, 1951 to the late Benjamin Murray, and Mamie-Lee Murray. He was born and raised in Brooklyn New York and was one of nine children. Growing up he would help his mother and father with his siblings. Van graduated Boys & Girls High School in 1969.  He was a very sociable person and made friends quickly. Many of those friends later turned into family. Van Murray took pride in himself, as well as his family. He loved all his kids and his kids always came first. He was an overall family man and was someone you could count on and he was always just one call away. Van was a very strong man and despite his struggles with his health, yet he still fought and stayed strong for his family. He was also the caregiver for his great aunt Sally until she passed away in 2010. On April 23, 2018, Van Murray was called home by our heavenly father, at the age of 66. Van will be forever remembered by his wife, family, and dear friends. In 1979, Van became an officer for the NYC Health & Hospital Corporations at Kings County, a job he enjoyed doing. Due to an injury at work in 1992, he left the hospital, and moved upstate New York where he continued to work at several jobs. He reconnected with Tracy Allen, they married and lived here in Binghamton to raise their son Vance. He was a member of Cornerstone Community Church where he sang  in the choir. He enjoyed the time he spent with his son watching wrestling, basketball and football. He was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin and Mamie Murray, son, Michael, sisters Sandra and Mary Murray and brother, James Murray. Van is survived by his beautiful wife Tracey Allen-Murray, sons; Vance, Vernard, Van, Chaun, Lashay and Tasheen, daughters; Shaquetta, Ebony, Sheniqua, Nyasia and Loleatta as well as a treasure of grandkids. He leaves behind sisters, Sharon Murray, Veronica Murray and Jennifer Murray, brothers, Benjamin Murray and Anthony Murray and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm, Monday, April 30, 2018 at the DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton. Family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the time of services.
