With heavy hearts we celebrate the life of Thomas William Edward Kerila, who was born on June 17, 1957, in Binghamton, NY, and passed away on December 20, 2025, in Binghamton, NY. Tom was a devoted father, proud Pop-Pop, beloved brother and cherished friend whose impact on the lives he touched will be felt for generations.
Predeceased by his loving parents, William and Mary Kerila, as well as Aunt Martha Burns, Uncles Joseph and William Burns and dear friend Peter Picciano. Tom is survived by his daughter Amanda Kerila, son Daniel (Jackie) Kerila and grandson Jacob Kerila. He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings Cathleen (Scott) McPherson, David (Dawn) Kerila and Robert (Lisa) Kerila, along with his cherished nieces and nephews Benjamin, Allyssa, Katie, and Emily Kerila. Additionally, he leaves behind aunts Jean Burns, Kathy (William) Ryan and a large family of loving cousins. He also leaves behind many close friends Rick, Stan, Mark "Chik", Bob, Mike and Joe. He shared an extraordinary friendship of over 55 years with Thomas Falletta, whose steadfast support meant the world to him and his family.
Family was the cornerstone of Tom's life and Amanda and Dan were his pride and joy. He took enormous pride in being a Pop-Pop and his skies lit up when his grandson Jacob was nearby. He found immense joy in family gatherings and always checked in with his loved ones. Tom was known to be loving, humorous and very smart with the gift of gab. He loved learning about everyone he met and his genuine interest in people was reflected in his big heart.
Tom dedicated his career to serving as a bus driver for Laidlaw Transit, Broome County Transit and CV School District where his kindness and dedication were appreciated by many.
Tom's unwavering faith was reflected in his active membership at Saint Francis of Assisi, where he found community and solace. He was a proud graduate of Seton Catholic School's class of 1975.
An avid sports enthusiast, Tom was a lifelong fan of the New York Mets, proudly traveling far and wide, including spring training trips, to cheer on his team. He passionately followed the New York Islanders, New York Knicks and New York Giants and seldom missed a chance to watch the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Music brought him joy as well; he enjoyed attending concerts, often laughing and singing along with friends. Tom passed down his love of music to Amanda and Dan and they often enjoyed attending concerts together. Known affectionately as a bookworm, Tom spent countless hours immersed in the words found within the pages he loved.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Norwich Rehabilitation & Nursing Center for taking care of Tom for many years. Their staff became family to him and always checked in to make sure all his needs were met. The family would also like to thank the staff of Chenango Memorial ER and Binghamton General ICU for their care in his final days.
