It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Aunt – Shirley Ann Crandall, 82, of Binghamton, NY whose passed away on November 8, 2024. She was predeceased by her parents, Myrl and Christine Crandall, son Stephen J. DeMarco, ex-husband George J. DeMarco, her siblings Harold Crandall, Betty Carpenter, Nellie Hatch, Ray Crandall, Myrl Crandall Jr., George Crandall and Howard Crandall (known as Andy).
She is survived by her children George DeMarco and Nicole DeMarco, daughters-in-law Julie Tonkin and Laurie DeMarco; grandchildren Michelle (Matt) Campbell, Stephen (Liana) DeMarco, Jr., Daniel DeMarco, Anthony DeMarco, Chase Tiffany, Britney Tiffany, Steven (Laura) Tonkin, Rachel Tonkin and Dustin Rivenburg; great grandchildren Noah, Alice, Ava, Jackson, Jacoby, Marcello, Milena, Katana, Coleton, Neaveh and Nolan and two unborn great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Constance Crandall and Ella Crandall, brother-in-law Milton Carpenter and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley worked for many years at the Binghamton Psychiatric Center taking care of her patients and their needs.
Affectionately known as “Grimm” to her grandchildren, she enjoyed taking them camping to the Forest Hill Lake Campground in Windsor for many years. She also enjoyed all the family get-togethers and parties – whether it be picnics, baby showers, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and yes, even funerals - where she was able to catch up with all the nieces and nephews and their children.
She spent many hours and days traveling to NC, SC, CA and FL to see family members far from home. One of her most enjoyable trips was to Disneyland in Florida with her kids and grandkids. She also enjoyed taking her grandchildren to amusement parks and other kid places with her siblings and their grandchildren – always a family adventure – some of which included Lego Land, Sesame Place, Niagara Falls, Dorney Park and Darien Lake among many others.
Shirley enjoyed the family poker/pinochle nights with her siblings when she was younger and loved to go to Tioga Downs with her brother Andy for a day trip. She didn’t win, but she loved spending time with her only surviving sibling at the time.
A special thank you to her grandson, Daniel, for the daily care she received and the car rides she so enjoyed in the final year of her life; granddaughter Britney for giving her a place to call home for the last few months; Mary, her caregiver for the last couple of years and Lourdes Hospice for all their help.
