Sands J. Tripp

Sands Tripp, a farm boy from South Gibson, Pennsylvania, died peacefully at home at the age of 93 on February 5, 2023. Sands was the youngest of six children, born at the beginning of the depression. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of South Gibson and its people during the 1930's. Sands started working in the elementary school, walking to stoke the furnace every day. He continued to work, spending most of his career as a linotype operator and a pressman at the Binghamton Press. He spent four years away from home in the United States Air force, flying 63 missions as a tail gunner in a B-52 during the Korean War. He was a dedicated son, father, brother and husband. He was predeceased by his wife Corrine Huson Tripp, his beloved parents, Sands Tripp and Belle Bennett Tripp, and siblings Iva Belfield , Eva Waite, Don Tripp, Marion Tripp and Betty Conte. Sands is survived by daughters Jill and Gretchen and sons Jeff and Jason and grandchildren Gregory, Adam, Jack, Hayley, Kaden, Jada, Levi, Emma and Owen. He was generous with his time and stayed busy and went swimming daily at the Johnson City YMCA through his eighties and he could fix almost anything. Sands maintained his work ethic, sense of humor and independence until the end. They don't make 'em like that anymore. A celebration of Sands life is being planned and will be announced.
