It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Russell Cole Jr., 72, of the Town of Binghamton, who concluded his courageous battle with ALS on August 25, 2026.
Russ was predeceased by his beloved parents, Russell and Eleanor Cole. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter alongside his significant other, Kenna Lou Mills, his cherished daughter Jenna (Brian) Brophy, and his son Steven Cole.
Born on April 14, 1954, in Binghamton, NY, Russ was a dedicated heavy equipment operator with the Town of Binghamton Highway Department, where he tirelessly contributed to his community. A proud member and former assistant chief of the Town of Binghamton Volunteer Fire Company, Russ spent countless hours serving and protecting his community. His spirit of service was evident as one of the hardest workers at the firehouse, where he was known for his ability to fix anything and for his captivating storytelling.
Musically gifted, Russ was a self-taught bassist who shared his passion for music with those around him. He performed in various bands throughout the area, spreading the joy of live music. His influence has inspired his daughter Jenna, who continues to share her own love for music across the state.
In honor of Russ's life and contributions, a memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 12:30 PM at Saint Augustine RC Church, located at 295 Church Road, Brackney, PA 18812. Burial will follow at Saint Augustine Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and share in the celebration of his life from 10:30 AM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Town of Binghamton Volunteer Fire Company or The ALS Association Upstate New York Chapter. Condolences can be forwarded through the website www.demunn.com.
Russell Cole Jr. will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy of service, music, and love for life will continue to inspire generations.
