With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ronald James DePersis on December 8, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on January 31, 1932, in Binghamton, NY, Ron lived a vibrant life filled with adventure, love, and service to his country and community.
Ronald proudly served in the United States Army as a Technical Sergeant during the Korean Conflict, where he demonstrated unwavering bravery and resilience, earning him a Purple Heart for his injuries. His dedication to his country was paralleled by his commitment to his family, who will forever cherish the legacy he leaves behind. He is survived by his beloved children: Patricia and Fred Basmajian, William and Debbie DePersis, Noreen and Steve Karcher, Vincent and Michele DePersis, Brian and Maura DePersis, and Marcia and Paul Engelhardt. Ron was a proud grandfather to sixteen grandchildren and a great-grandfather to fifteen great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life. Ronald is also survived by his loving brother Peter and sister-in-law Ceil DePersis, along with his nieces MaryLou DePersis, Linda DePersis Jennifer DePersis and nephew Michael DePersis. He was predeceased by his cherished wife, Nancy DePersis, and his parents, Modesto and Mary DePersis, as well as his brothers Joseph and Edward DePersis.
A devoted community member, Ron contributed his time and talents to youth baseball organizations and proudly held membership in the American Legion and Lions Clubs International. He nurtured his artistic side through wood carving, specializing in waterfowl, and enjoyed painting, which brought color to his days and those around him.
In recognition of his life well-lived, a Memorial Celebration of Ron's life will be held on December 12, 2025, at 12:00 PM, at the DeMunn Funeral Home and Cremation Service located at 36 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton, NY. Family and friends are invited to share in this celebration of his remarkable journey, and visitation will take place from 10:00 AM until the time of service that day.
The family expresses gratitude to the amazing staff at the Oxford Veterans Facility, Mercy House of the Southern Tier, Guthrie Hospice Staff and Binghamton General Hospital for their compassionate care during Ron's final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in Ron's memory to Mercy House of the Southern Tier at 212 N. McKinley Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760, or to the Broome County Dog Shelter at 110 Cutler Pond Road, Binghamton, NY 13905.
Ronald J. DePersis was truly one of a kind, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Let us gather to celebrate his life, sharing memories, laughter, and the love that he brought into our lives.
