It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Robert "Bob" Charles Cox, of Kirkwood, New York, who passed away on November 3, 2023 at the age of 84.
Mr. Cox was born in Torrington, Connecticut, to Clarence Cox and Ruth (Whitehead) Cox on March 4, 1939. He grew up in Bantam, Connecticut. Bob served in the United States Army, graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1964 with a BSEE, and spent his engineering career with Texas Instruments and IBM. Bob was a member of Texas Instruments' Group Technical Staff, and had three patents in the field of artificial intelligence. He was president of the Austin Chapter of the Association for Services Management International.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judith McCunn Cox; his daughters Shannon Hogan (Dan) and Anna Kimberly Cox-Havron (Dean); siblings Betty Herbert (Bill), Allan Cox (Peg), Cindy Iffland (George), and Loren Cox (Betsy); grandchildren Julia Havron, Samuel Havron, Caiden Hogan, and Brynn Hogan; and a large extended family.
Bob loved the outdoors. He hiked the Appalachian Trail, rode a bicycle from southern California to Spokane, Washington, and biked the length of the Erie Canal several times. Bob and Judy also spent several winters in Jekyll Island, Georgia. Bob was also an accomplished writer. His humor columns were published by the Litchfield Enquirer (Litchfield, CT), the Weekly Register-Call (Gilpin County, CO), and the Rocky Mountain News in Denver. He also wrote poetry, and his memoirs.
Bob will be remembered as a loving husband and father; and for his quick wit, his wisdom, his sense of realism and optimism, and for the smart house features he custom-built over the past twenty years, which we are still trying to figure out.
Memorial service will be private. Online condolences may be left at www.demunn.com . Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Research Institute, www.cancerresearch.org, or to the Jekyll Island Arts Association, https://jekyllartists.com
