Richard E. Blanford Richard passed away peacefully Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital surrounded by his family and friends.  REBL, as many have known him, was born June 24, 1950 in Binghamton and resided in the Triple Cities area his whole life.  Richard was predeceased by his parents Carlton and Violet and his wife Karen. He is survived by his brother Ronald, (Julie) Blanford, sister Ruth Blanford, sons Mickey, (Amanda) and Stephen, and grandchildren Evan, James and Noah and several nieces, nephews and cousins and step children. REBL earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY and his masters in engineering from Syracuse University. He was a Flight control Engineer at BAE Systems in Endicott; he worked for BAE and its heritage companies since 1972. As a classic car enthusiast he was a member and current treasurer for the Cruisin' Buddies car club where he enjoyed attending the events with his brother Ron and the first love of his life, his 1971 Plymouth Satellite aptly named "Yellowbird". One of REBL's other favorite activities which came later in life was playing hockey with his friends and coworkers in many leagues throughout the area and watching his grandchildren play hockey for the STHA. He was also a lifelong New York Yankee, Giants football and Rangers hockey fan. He loved to read military history and play conflict simulations.  Calling hours will be Monday, March 3, 2014 at Earnest H. Parsons Funeral Home in Binghamton from 5-8PM and a service on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 starting at 1:00PM at the funeral home.
