Raymond A Noonan knew the chance of death was 100% and on June 18 2023 he proved it. Raymond is predeceased by his parents Alban and Elizabeth, and his infant daughter Sarah. Born to an unwed mother in 1943, he was left in the care of the nuns at St. Joseph’s Orphanage in Scranton, PA. It was through sheer dumb luck that Alban & Elizabeth who were by 1940’s standards way too old to be having kids, walked into the orphanage and saw Raymond’s shining smile and scooped him up. Off to Binghamton they took him for a proper Catholic upbringing. Raymond was a curious person, a lifelong fascination with theology which started with an attempt at catholic seminary, ultimately never taking final vows (phew!) Fortunately, for his children his brush with Christ led to him bumping into the cute red-headed sister of his seminary classmate. Raymond & Elizabeth continued on to Syracuse University where he earned a Masters in Social Work, befitting as he had a never ending desire to get inside people’s minds. Ray used his MSW as a caseworker at the Binghamton Psychiatric Center. The Worker’s Compensation Board, and the NYS Division for Youth. What really earned his keep however, was getting inside people’s houses as a career real estate appraiser in the Binghamton area. How boring if you think about it, since he himself was so interesting. Ray was an avid reader. He would read everything from great theologians to massive volumes about Hitler and the third reich (much to the chagrin of his whole family as he would insist on telling you everything he had read. I mean honestly… there’s only so much you can hear about Hitler at the Tday table before you can’t take it anymore) His variety of interests and hobbies included chess, golf, tennis, Morning Knights Toastmasters, pickleball, and bridge- where he had reached the master’s level. Ray had a keen interest in people, what they thought about, and what they did with their lives. He would talk to anyone, anywhere, anytime. He believed that most people were good, except mass murderers, pedophiles and Trump. Always with a cheerful grin and a mostly positive attitude, he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Left behind to handle the gap left by his absence are his son Aaron Noonan, his daughter Emily Doyle, grandchildren Sarah Noonan, Hannah Noonan, Aiden Noonan, Annie Doyle and Charlotte Doyle. Other people who claim him are his ex-wife and close friend, Elizabeth Powers Noonan, Danny Doyle, Heather Back, David Thomas, Connie Papastrat, Jack Bobby, many cousins, brothers- and sisters-in- law, a mob of nieces and nephews, and a slew of good friends in every corner. A Celebration of Life to honor Ray will be held later in the year.
