Paulette Klin, beloved mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, died peacefully on
January 20, 2024 at the age of 87 at her home in Vestal, NY. She was born on August 23,
1936 near Buchach, Poland, and miraculously survived the Holocaust with her mother
and a few other relatives. After a period in Paris, Paulette and her family settled in
Windsor, Ontario.
She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Wayne State University in Detroit and resided in
South Jersey for many decades. She was a passionate, dedicated teacher of French,
English, and psychology at Oakcrest and Absegami high schools and Atlantic
Community College.
The years in Paris left an indelible impression on her, with dishes like ratatouille making
its way onto the dinner table (which her children assumed was standard American fare).
There was a constant level of cultural awareness and she was a reservoir of support for
her children, her parents, her family, and her friends.
Paulette moved to Vestal in her retirement to be near family. She never wanted to be
defined as a Holocaust survivor, but she was. Her entire life was a gift: A small child
surviving the war was an anomaly. And it was a gift that we were so grateful to have
experienced.
She is survived by her daughter Celia (Sue Krause), son Richard (Lily Prince), and two
granddaughters, Sophia and Stella, as well as her longtime companion Ronald Jackson,
who was a mainstay of support and devotion.
A funeral service for Paulette will be conducted at 1:30PM on Tuesday, January 23rd, 2024 at Temple Israel, 4737 Deerfield Place, Vestal, NY 13850. Graveside burial service will follow immediately thereafter at the Temple Israel Riverside Cemetery, 719 Conklin Road, Binghamton, NY 13903.Shiva will be observed Wednesday, January 24th from 5:00PM-7:00PM, including a Shiva minyan service at 5:30PM, at the Klin/Krause home, 15 Jutland Road, Binghamton, NY, 13903.
