Morton H. Gilinsky, 76 of Binghamton passed away Monday April 16 at Wilson Memorial Hospital. Born March 2, 1936 in Binghamton NY the son of the Late Mera (Hodes) and Jacob Gilinsky. Morton attended North High and graduated from Binghamton Central High School. He was a gifted athlete playing and excelling in Track, Football, Basketball, Tennis and Golf earning him the nickname "Mort the Sport". He attended Syracuse University and was awarded his Bachelors degree from Harpur College. Mort worked at I.B.M. Owego Federal Systems Division as a marketing executive, a 36 year career he truly loved as it afforded him the opportunity to meet many famous, interesting, and powerful people the world over. Mort was also a member of the Quarter Century Club. He also shared his time volunteering at the JCC, acting as a board member ,and being honored as the volunteer of the year several times over. Mort also dedicated his time to the Boy Scouts and with son David were both Eagle Scouts. Mort was an avid tennis player and golfer. Mort was extremely proud of his parents, their struggles , emigrating to the United States and his being a first generation American. Mort's greatest joy was his family, he always wanted to give them the best of everything in life. But they will tell you that Mort himself was the "Best Gift of All". He will always be with us in our hearts forever and ever. Surviving Mort are his loving wife Shirley (Sampson) Gilinsky, Binghamton his daughter Debra Ann Gilinsky, Havre de Grace, MD, his son, David Alan (Patty) Gilinsky, Chagrin Falls, Ohio four grandchildren Samantha (Kenny) Pasley , Jaime (Dustin) Gelman, all of Westminster, MD. and Julia and Daniel Gilinsky of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. He is also survived by five great grandchildren; Jasmine, Jordyn, Sydney, Natalie and Noah. Mort is also survived by sister in law Pat (Don) Ross and brother in law Richard (Kathy) Sampson. The family would like to express their gratitude to their wonderful neighbor Katie Gianakouris, a dear friend for many years Lois Levitt, and Tom Head for their kind help and understanding. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday April 18 at 2:00 P.M. at Temple Israel 4737 Deer Field Place  Binghamton . The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the Temple. Rabbi Tziona Szajman will officiate. Internment will follow at Temple Israel-Riverside Cemetery in Conklin. Shiva will be observed at the family home Wednesday, and Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Arrangements are with the Ernest H. Parsons Funeral Home 71 Main Street, Binghamton NY.
