Mary M Steen

On Saturday May 8th, Mary M Steen of Binghamton, NY died of abdominal cancer. She was 63 years old. Mary is survived by her husband James Steen; their children, Jerome Steen and Joshua Steen; and siblings Joseph VanAtta of Binghamton, Anna Lott of Binghamton and Michael VanAtta of Chenango Bridge. She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Margaret VanAtta. Mary was born on December 4th, 1957 in Binghamton, NY. She graduated from Susquehanna Valley Highschool in 1975 and went on to attend Marywood University where she graduated with a degree in special education. Mary married James Steen in 1979. They welcomed Jerome in 1985 and Joshua in 1990. Always an avid reader and voracious learner Mary shared her passion for knowledge with the next generation through teaching. Her classroom was devoted to special needs children and worked hard toward inclusion. A memorial service for Mary is scheduled for Tuesday May 18th at 11am at Saints John and Andrew. It will be immediately followed by a graveside burial ceremony at Calvary Cemetery. Donations should be made in her name to Mercy House for their kind aid to the family.
