Lucia (Castrogiovanni) Chope, 91, Passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday January 4th, 2014 surrounded by family. She was predeceased by her loving husband Harry Chope, their infant daughter Michelle, her parents Josephine (Piazza) and Alberto Castrogiovanni, sisters Pauline & Laura and brother Joseph. Lucia is survived by her daughter Nancy and husband Leonard Swinko, four grandsons Joseph and Sharon Brennan, Michael Brennan & Jodi Blakeney, Christopher & Melissa Brennan and Shane King, great grandchildren, Patrick, Katie, Megan and Kennedy brother John and sister Cecilia in addition to many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lucia was born in Scranton, Pa. and moved to Montrose, Pa. as a young girl and later settled in Binghamton as an adult. She worked in the shoe factories as a young women working at Dunn McCarthy and later Endicott Johnson Shoes where she met the love of her life Harry. They were inseparable and devoted to each other for the rest of their lives. She worked at Macintosh Labs for many years before retiring in 1984. In retirement Lucia & Harry  enjoyed traveling, visiting Hawaii on a number of occasions and spending time with family. Lucia  and Harry were devout members of Holy Spirit church in Binghamton where she was a member of the Mothers Club  until she could no longer do it. Lucia was a wonderful cook and baker and the house was always full of young boys to feed and to enjoy the fruits of her labor. Always active in her grandsons school or sporting events she became well known amongst all of her grandsons friends. Later in life Lucia loved to spend time with her family and in particular her great grandchildren of whom she could not get enough of. She will be missed by many. Friends may call at Ernest H. Parsons Funeral Home, 71 Main Street, Binghamton, from 3-6 PM on Thursday, January 9th. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 10th, 10:00 AM  at Holy Spirit Church on Clinton St.  in Binghamton.
