Lois Mae Dobbs, 74, beloved wife, mother and “Nina” [grandmother], went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 28, 2023, after falling ill at her home in Cookeville, Tennessee. Born in Cooperstown, NY, on December 23, 1948, she graduated from Harpursville High School and studied at SUNY Broome. She is predeceased by her parents, Edson and Ruth Williams and father-in-law, Reverend Clarence Hugh Dobbs. Lois survived by her beloved husband James H. Dobbs, who cherished her. She is also survived by her three loving children: Dwayne Kunkel and his wife Angela, Kenneth Kunkel, and daughter, Lisa Decker. Lois is the cherished “Nina” to her eight grandchildren: Joshua Kunkel, Cassarah Jones, Leigha, Kyle, Anna, and Kevin Decker, Katelyn and Kenneth Kunkel, and six great-grandchildren; Sophia Vincenec & Parker Tompkins, Moxley Taylor & Avalyn Kunkel, and Ceeley & Colson Jones. She leaves behind her sister & brother-in-law, Jane and Roland Hurlburt, and mother-in-law, Mary D. Dobbs, sister-in-law & her husband, Brenda and Mark Williamson and several nieces and nephews.
Lois will be remembered for her strong will and resourcefulness. Lois was an accomplished seamstress who used her talent to make beautiful clothing for weddings, beauty pageants, and church choirs. She also sewed dolls and dresses for her granddaughters. Lois loved animals, she owned a dog grooming business in Fort Payne, Alabama. She worked with abandoned and abused animals providing diligent care until they were able to be adopted by new families. Lois could make any home beautiful; she was a talented wallpaper hanger and interior decorator. She also made beautiful holiday memories for her children and grandchildren, giving her full attention to every detail, homemade pies and cookies were her specialty. Lois loved spending time with her family, her hospitality was gracious, her grandchildren loved spending summers at her home.
Please join us at First Baptist Church of Port Crane, 38 Canal Street, Port Crane New York, where visitation will be held Friday, September 8, 2023, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm followed by a Funeral Service at 3:00 pm.
