Lavinia "Vinnie" Adler of Binghamton, New York, passed away peacefully at home on August 31, 2026.

Vinnie was born on May 3, 1942, in the Bronx, New York, to Arthur McCron and Lavinia O'Loughlin. After graduating from Wantagh High School in 1960, she earned her bachelor's degree from Albany State in 1964. She began her career as a librarian with the Chenango Forks Central School District (1964-1968) and continued her lifelong pursuit of learning by earning a Master of Library Science degree from Syracuse University in 1969.

Vinnie later worked as a film librarian at the Hartford, CT Public Library (1969-1970), reference librarian for the Endicott Public Library (1984-1988), before completing her professional career as the automation coordinator for the Broome County Public Library System (1988-2000). After retirement she was a dedicated volunteer at Binghamton General Hospital.

Throughout her life, Vinnie found great joy in hand weaving, paper marbling and book repair. In 1979, she transformed her passion for weaving into her own studio, The Weaver's Place. The studio was initially located in Stephen's Square on State Street before moving to Court Street in downtown Binghamton, above The Unique Shoppe.

An accomplished artisan, Vinnie exhibited her work at Holiday at Roberson in Binghamton, Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival in Norwich, July Fest in Binghamton and numerous other craft shows and festivals along the East Coast. Her weaving even attracted the attention of buyers at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City, where a variety of her handmade creations were offered both in the store and through its catalog. Her creative interests continued to grow over the years, first through paper marbling and later through more than 30 years of repairing treasured books for hundreds of area residents.

Vinnie will be remembered for her creativity, strong will, fierce independence, and keen interest in the world around her. She enjoyed folk dancing, which was a big part of her life, live music, visiting museums and zoos. Most of all, Vinnie loved spending time with her grandchildren. Vinnie is survived by her daughter, Rima Adler and Gary Fox of Potomac, Maryland; her son, David Adler and Chatdao Hinklay of Binghamton; her grandchildren, Mackenzie and Kylie Fox, Ana and Andrew Adler; and her longtime friend, Donald Costello, of Binghamton, NY and Medford, MA. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Samuel; her former husband, Norbert Adler; her infant daughter, Lisa Adler; and her lifelong friend, Joan Ingles, whom she had known since childhood.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm, Friday, September 11, 2026 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Binghamton, 183 Riverside Drive, Binghamton with the Reverend Douglas Taylor officiating.
