Our beloved mother and grandmother, Laura Comency, 86, passed away November 20, 2021. Laura was the daughter of Folke and Laura Mollberg. She was a 1953 graduate of Johnson City High School. Laura never left home without a book in her hand from the time she was a toddler and remained an avid reader throughout life. She worked at the Captiol Theater before starting her career as a proofreader at Vail Ballou before her semi-retirement when she became a school crossing guard known as “Miss Laurie” . She remained active in her senior years, taking up figure skating, yoga and working out at the gym. She loved to travel especially visiting the Outer Banks yearly with family. She was predeceased by her husband, John Thomas Comency, Sr., daughter, Judy Comency-Brady, siblings Ruth Perinsky, Marilyn Edwards and Lynn Mollberg and brother-in-law Donald Edwards. Laura is survived by children, John Thomas Comency, Jr., Stephen Paul Comency and Patricia Lynn Comency, treasured grandchildren, Jenny Lynn Comency and Hannah Drew Comency, cherished niece and nephews, Corky Edwards, Karl Edwards and Cindy Launt, a wonderful friend who was like a son, Richard Placek, son-in-law, Ray Brady and a large extended family. She leaves behind her furbabies, Henry, Emily and Oprah and many, many close friends. Funeral services will be held 3:00pm, Sunday, November 28, 2021 at the DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton with Pastor Jan Clark officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until the time of services. She will be placed alongside her husband John in Vestal Hills Memorial Park in a private service on Monday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Laura's name may be made to the Broome County Humane Society, 167 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton, NY 13903 or to the charity of your choice.
