Kurt Frankl

d. May 13, 2017

Kurt Urban Frankl born March 21, 1946 in Washington, DC, died May 13, 2017.Kurt had an uncurbed enthusiasm for ridiculously funny things: kids, animals, politics, people, and life.He disliked: mediocre design, FOX News, the number of buttons on the television remote control (and the fact that he had to use two remotes just to watch a program). At age 21 Kurt joined the Navy, serving four years during the Vietnam Nam era. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Jason (AR-8), a repair ship that served the entire 7th Fleet. With the WestPac Cruise, Kurt traveled back and forth from San Diego, CA, to Hawaii, Yokosuka and Sasebo, Japan, to the Philippines, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Following the Navy, there was an interlude of interesting jobs, including co-owning a moving company in Washington, DC. Kurt found his passion of helping people did not include moving furniture, but listening and guiding others through counseling. He obtained his Master's Degree from Syracuse University's School of Social Work and retired from Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, NY.Kurt was a voracious reader and avid film buff, with a connoisseur's palate for gourmet cooking, yet was just as happy with a hotdog (mustard, onions, pickle relish) or chicken spiedie. He had an affinity for Jazz and happily introduced the genre to many. Kurt's faithful companion, besides Betsy, was his dog, Lillian Edith Lucille: "LuLu"Kurt is survived by his wife of ten years, Betsy Marean-Frankl; and the adult children he loved: Joshua Elliott Marean, fiancée Megan Bennett; Jessica & Darrelle Thompson. Many little ones were blessed to call him "Papa": Isaiah, Donovan, Adrianna, Christopher, Jamison, and Julianna Thompson; Kaydan Marean, Aidan and Adriana Bennett. Kurt leaves behind his siblings: Bob Taggart (Barbara Dunn), Daniel Frankl, Matt Frankl; nephews Theron Taggart, Shane Hamilton and niece Skylar Hamilton Burris. Kurt was blessed with an extended family of cousins with whom he spent childhood summers riding horses, doing chores with little enthusiasm, and getting into trouble on the farm in Algona, Iowa.Kurt's brothers-in-law survive: Bill and Judy Marean, Williamson, NY; Al and Mary Marean, Endwell, NY; Bob and Michele Marean, Wysox, PA.Predeceasing Kurt: sister, Karen Taggart Hamilton, brother, Pete Frankl, and beloved canine Hambone Johnson: "Johnny".A Celebration of Kurt Frankl's Life is being planned.
