John Chantry, Sr.

John Elton Chantry, Sr., age 86, of Binghamton, NY passed away Tuesday August 8, 2017.He graduated from Binghamton North High School, was a Marine Veteran who served in the Korean War, and later received his BA degree from State University of New York, Harpur College (now Binghamton University). John worked as a Science Teacher in the Binghamton City School District, predominantly teaching Chemistry, from 1962-1991. John loved working outdoors at home, planting gardens and tending to the fish, frogs and plants around his beloved pond. His children remember fondly camping with their dad at local parks and in Myrtle Beach, NC. John was predeceased by his son, John Chantry, Jr. and is survived by his children, Thomas R. Chantry (Binghamton, NY), Daniel H. Shank (Clearwater, FL), Patrice M. (Shank) Prentice (San Jose, CA) and Elaine C. (Shank) Hahn (Palo Alto, CA), and by his grandchildren, Thomas L. Chantry, John Chantry III, Evan Hahn and Jeremy Hahn. Per John’s wishes, his family will honor his life in a private gathering.
