Joel Bernard Jacobs, 82, of Vestal, passed away surrounded by family Wednesday, December 4, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Dorothy "Dottie" Jacobs, children Jennifer (Brian) Rieber and Geoffrey (Joyce) Jacobs, and grandchildren Madison Rieber, Emma, Andrew, and Grayson Jacobs; sister Barbara Follett; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Joan (James "Boomer") Cannan; nephew, Saul Jacobs; nieces Francine (Robert) Schubert, Melissa (Bryan) Walker and Erin (Dave Campalong) Cannan; great-nieces Emma Walker and Kaitlyn Jacobs; great-nephews Ryan (Alice) Trivett, Hayden and Gavin Campalong. He was also survived by many cousins, special friends Jack (Arlene) Salerno and their family, Dick (Nancy) Johnson, Glenn (April) Choffin, Dennis (Jasmine) Fujii, Pal (Wilma) Jabbal, Mike (Darlene) Wisnewski, and many other special friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Roland and Julia Jacobs; brother, Kenneth Jacobs; sister, Susan Crofford; daughter, Laura Jacobs; grandson, Thomas Jacobs; special friends Dennis and Joanne; and his special salad friend Charlie the dog who enjoyed making and eating salads with him.
He was born in Lakewood, New Jersey. He was a chemical Engineer and plant manager. He managed to have two patents to his name. His career took him many places, his favorite being Lawrence, Kansas. He was involved in many charities throughout life. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Lakewood Fire Department, which was near and dear to his heart, he was always focused on helping his community. Throughout his life and career he left a lasting impact on many people. He was kind, caring and selfless in everything he did. He was always there for friends and family. He loved traveling around the united states in the "Truck House," spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and wife, he was an avid fan of University of Kansas and the Buffalo Bills. He had a love for cars especially his 1968 Corvette.
He also had a humorous side, everyone can celebrate with a glass of their favorite premium box wine and a great big salad.
The family would like to express our thanks to all of the healthcare workers and medical professionals at Binghamton General Hospital Wilson Hospital and strong memorial, on so many different floors especially to the palliative care unit at BGH. We appreciate all you have done for us on this journey.
Services will be held Sunday, December 8th at noon. Friends may come to call from 11:00 am-12:00 pm prior to the service. The family requests everyone to come repping the Bills, University of Kansas or their favorite sports team. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
