Please join us in honoring our mother, Joan Grover, as she transitioned to be with our Lord after 87 years of living! She lived a life of tremendous accomplishments but none made her as proud as raising her 8 children, James, Cynthia, Jacquelyn, Donald, Scott, Brett, Aimee and Andrew while also helping to raise three step-sons, Clyde, Jeffrey and Gregory. Joan was a mother-in-law to many and friend to most, grandmother to a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loving daughter, sister and certainly a “trailblazing” aunt!
Joan knew the beauty of communing with spirits but was still stung by the grief of loss as she was predeceased by her companion, Chester, son, James, step-son’s, Clyde and Jeffrey, grandson’s, Finnley and Nathan, son-in-law’s, Phillip and Rick, her parents, all of her siblings and much extended family but she also knew boundless joy. She was an avid bird watcher, animal lover and promoter for stewardship of nature, holistic living and Mother Earth, proudly donating her body for the advancement of education and research to the anatomical gift program at SUNY Upstate Medical University, in Syracuse.
Joan had a prolific memory for poetry and the written word, also writing beautifully herself. She was politically-minded with many active years as a poll worker and wore many different hats for many years at the family business, New Milford Sand & Gravel. She will be remembered for her quick-wit, sharp tongue, defiant nature and outlandish tales of defying death, but also for being supportive of our trials, tribulations and triumphs and for the incredible legacy she has left behind, to love and be loved.
At our mother’s request there will be no funeral or memorial services. In lieu of flowers should friends or family so desire please make a donation to your local food bank or hospice facility in her name. She truly would be honored.
