Our beloved son, Jeffrey Naismith Ryder, 35, was torn from us by pneumonia on November 21, 2017. He was predeceased by his grandmothers; Marjorie Ryder and Hilda Ryder, grandfathers; William Ryder and Stuart Naismith, and aunt, Kathryn Ryder. He is survived by his parents Jack and Cheryl Ryder, sisters; Christine and Laura Ryder, and grandmother, Peggy Naismith. Also surviving Jeff are his aunt Susan Naismith, uncles; James Ryder and Thomas Ryder, and cousins; Joseph (Breanna) Ryder, Thomas (Melissa) Ryder, and Beth (Beau) Soltan. Jeff was born October 5, 1982, a beautiful fall day. He was a Boy Scout, achieving the rank of Eagle. He enjoyed swimming and worked summers on the waterfront at Camp Barton. He graduated from Chenango Valley Schools and SUNY Plattsburgh (Economics). As he grew older, Jeff struggled with mental illness, which changed his life. While we will dearly miss him forever, it is a gift to know that he is free of the sadness, darkness and demons that plagued his later life. He now dwells where there is no pain, no sadness, and no mental illness. We thank the CTRC and Catholic Charities for looking out for Jeff and caring for him. He trusted the people that worked at these agencies, and he knew they cared for him. We know he will be missed by his community of many friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities (Mental Health Services) 290 Front Street, Binghamton New York, 13905 or Rescue Mission 56-58 Whitney Ave., Binghamton New York 13904. Jeff’s family will receive friends from 2:00pm-5:00pm Sunday, November 26 at DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Ave., Binghamton. Memorial Services will be held 11:00am, Monday, November 27 at Nimmonsburg United Methodist Church 98 Front Street, Binghamton with Pastor Jenni Piatt officiating.
