Jean Lester Knapp Smith, 94 of Endicott passed away April 13, 2022. She is survived by her loving husband Ed Smith; daughter Debbie (Steve) Gabert; son David (Cyndi) Knapp; stepsons David (Mary) Smith and Doug (Audrey) Smith; grandchildren Dr. Courtney (Charlie) Fitzpatrick Batchelor, Ian (Esther) Knapp and Victoria (Jesse) Benelli; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sister, Barbara (Ken) Hall; brothers Doug (Pat) Lester, Jerry (Karen) Lester; sisters-in-law Amy (Dan) Lacey, Kathy House, Maureen (David) Riter and as well as numerous cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Helen (Wilson) Lakin; children’s father, Herbert Knapp; sister, Joyce (Tom) Quain, brother, Lynn Lester and brothers-in-law Lance (Carman) Smith and Raymond Smith. She retired from the New York Telephone Company in 1985 with 40 years of service. Jean was active in the Telephone Pioneers where she coordinated their monthly Dutch Treat Luncheons. She was a long-time member of Conklin Avenue First Baptist Church where she was involved with its B&P Class and was the CHOW coordinator. Jean was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and aunt and will be remembered for her love of cooking, especially baking cookies. Jean's family extends a special thanks to all the staff at Ideal Nursing Center for the exceptional care they gave Jean. Funeral services will be held 12:00 pm, Monday, April 18, 2022 at the DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton with the Reverend Dr. Steven Chastain officiating. Interment will follow services in Riverview Cemetery, Harpursville. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 am until the time of services.
