On Saturday, December 1, 2018 Henryka Simmons passed peacefully into God’s hands surrounded by her loving husband, children and grandchildren. Henryka was born in Vienna, Austria January 20, 1931. She was the beloved daughter of Leopold and Anna Stephania Flecker. At the age of eight she escaped the Holocaust and with her family moved to Shanghai, China. During WWII her family was interned by the Japanese Army. At the end of the war she met, fell in love with and married David Simmons who was in the US Army and stationed in Shanghai. She came to the United States with David in 1948 and started their family. Henryka and her husband David loved to travel, touring our beautiful country several times as well as Europe and Japan. They visited her birthplace in Austria and where she grew up in China where she met the love of her life, David. She loved ceramics and was famous for her kolachki cookies and apple pies and most of all- having her family around her for all occasions and holidays. Henryka’s family want to thank Dr. Talati and Dr. Anne and the very caring staff at Willow Point Nursing Home. She is survived by her devoted husband of 71 years, David, six children; Stephanie (Peter) Romanczuk, Boise, Idaho, David (Sally)Simmons, Chester, NC, Sandra (Rick Day) Simmons, Port Crane, NY, Lorraine (Gerard) Colistra, Amsterdam, NY, Christine (Tom) French, Windsor, NY and Mark (Darlene) Simmons, Lisle, NY. 8 treasured grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 3 great- great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Saints John and Andrew RC Church, 1263 Vestal Avenue, Binghamton with the Reverend Monsignor Michael T. Meagher officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Henryka’s name may be made to the Susan G.
