On Sunday, January 27th, surrounded by family Gerald (“Jerry”) Steier passed away at the age of 76. He was born on April 11th, 1942 to William and Anne Steier in Binghamton, New York. He received his Mechanical Engineering degree from Purdue University. He served two years in the army after being drafted during the Vietnam Era. He spent his Engineering career at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, retiring in 1999. He spent the last two years of his life in Michigan, being cared for by his oldest daughter, Jennefer. Jerry enjoyed gardening and loved to cook for his family. He always said a good recipe was never the same cause something was always changed a little. He could fix anything on a car unless it was a foreign car. He liked watching Nascar races, as well as Purdue basketball, and the Baltimore Orioles games on television. He had quite a sense of humor and his family and friends always got a good laugh with him. He would do anything to help his family or friends and he was dedicated to working hard at what he did. Gerald was preceded by his father, his mother and his brother (William Steier). He is survived by children Matthew Cooper, Jennefer (Jeromy) Easter, Amy (Mike Ward) Steier, Audrey Moore, Mary Leverington, Elizabeth (Ricky)Henderson, and Michael Steier; grandchildren Brandon, Zachary, Garon, Sarah, Colleen, James, Matthew, Morgan, Addison, and Phillip as well as survived by his brother Dennis (Lori) Steier and Sister Elizabeth (Bob) Richards and several cousins, nephews and a niece. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00am, Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Saints John and Andrew RC Church, 1163 Vestal Avenue, Binghamton by the Reverend Monsignor Michael T. Meagher. Interment will follow services in Calvary Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 4:00pm until 7:00 pm, Monday, February 4, 2019 at the DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton.
