George L. Capwell, Jr.

d. January 4, 2025

George Louis Capwell Jr., 74, passed away on January 4, 2025. He was born September 18, 1950, and predeceased by his parents, George L. Capwell Sr. and Barbara A. Capwell, and his brothers Christopher and Thaddeus.

George is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jeanne Capwell. George is also survived by his three brothers, his sister and their spouses, Kim & Heidi Capwell, Peter & Mary Capwell, Patrick & Suzanne Capwell, Richard & Mary Hull.

George lived an amazing life and accomplished more than most people could aspire. He graduated from Binghamton Central, attended Central Connecticut State and graduated from Colorado State University. After working as a schoolteacher in Estes Park Colorado, he moved back to his home in Brackney Pa where he had a career at Universal Instruments before retiring early to pursue his passion for woodworking. George and Jeanne’s business, Sugar Mountain Woods & Glass, produced stunningly beautiful furniture and kitchens over the years, while using local wood through their own sawmill and kiln. Everything George did, he did well, whether it was tennis, swimming, bicycling, golf, reading, bowling, archery, hunting, cider-making, dancing, cooking, cabinetmaking, and so much more. His commitment to doing everything to its fullest was a huge positive influence on everyone that came into his life. He left an indelible mark on all his nephews and nieces by demonstrating how you can do anything with education and perseverance.

The Capwell family will have a private memorial and they wish to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Binghamton Boys & Girls Club or charity of your choice.  To forward condolences please visit www.demunn.com .
