Our beloved mother and grandmother, Gail Perkins Gilroy, 90, passed March 25, 2020. Gail was a social person who made friends wherever she went. She had an interest in everything and studied many subjects, including different religions so that she could better understand her own. She loved dogs and enjoyed walking them (on rainy days looking like the Gorton’s Fisherman). She was a talented crafter, who made miniatures and porcelain dolls, knitted, sewed and baked for her children and grandchildren– usually something chocolate. Gail often said she had a recurring dream that her doctor told her "she needed to get more chocolate in her diet". Gail grew up in Painted Post and graduated from Corning High School and attended RIT for fashion. After marriage, Gail moved to Deansboro where she raised her family. She was the scorekeeper for the Deansboro Bush League and Senior League for six seaons. Early in her career, she was a regional manager for Avon and after was the librarian for the American Management Association in Hamilton, NY. During the 1990’s she was a volunteer with Canine Working Companions. Gail purchased a cottage on Eaton Brook Reservoir where she spent her summers on the back porch with her brother Bob, sister-in-law Mary and her Brittany Spaniels. They developed a strong community of friends who attended happy hour on that back porch for many a year. After she was widowed in 2005, she moved to Binghamton to be closer to her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas and parents, Frank and Doris Perkins. Gail is survived by her children, Patricia Gilroy, Grafton, New Hampshire and Matthew and Mary Gilroy, Binghamton; treasured grandchildren, Maggie Gilroy, Abigail Rienzo, Sam Gilroy and Anna Gilroy, and brother and sister-n-law, Bob and Mary Perkins, New Orleans, Louisiana. Gail's family would like to express their thanks to the caring staff of Saint Louise Manor and Elizabeth Church Manor for compassionate care over the years. Immediate funeral services will be private. Gail will be interred in Deansboro Cemetery later in the year. A celebration of Gail’s life will be held at that time at Deansboro United Church of Christ and will be announced. Memorial contributions in Gail’s name may be made to Stevens-Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio St, Utica, NY 13502 or (315) 738-4357. To forward condolences please visit www.demunn.com.
