Frances Sandwick

d. January 8, 2021

Frances fell asleep peacefully and was welcomed into the arms of God on January 8th, 2021. She was born December 25, 1919 in Kirkwood, NY and was a long-time member of the Kirkwood Historical Society where she donated many family artifacts to the museum. During her teen years, the family moved to the east side of Binghamton where she attended Binghamton Central High School graduating in 1938. She then went on to Ridley Lowell School of Business graduating in 1939. She loved the big bands that came frequently to the JC Pavilion and got many famous people’s autographs. This is where she met the love of her life, Delbert who she was married to for 56 years. Delbert enlisted in the army in WWII and Frances began work at Ansco’s in Binghamton as well as volunteering with the war effort. After Delbert came home from his tour of duty, they started a family and eventually moved to Hillcrest, Binghamton, NY. Cheryl was born in 1947, Thomas in 1950, and Judy in 1953. As the family grew Frances was involved in the Order of the Eastern Star and began working part-time at the Volunteers of America on Saturdays. As the children grew and all were in school Frances started working at the Wyoming Conference Children’s Home as their secretary. Throughout this time she was incredibly involved with Ogden Hillcrest United Methodist Church serving in roles as church secretary, church treasurer, volunteering on the alter guild, being a member of the Rebecka Circle and volunteering in the Thrift Store as well as raising the family in the church, where she was a member for over 70 years. Frances was a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend, always smiling and rarely complaining. She was a strong woman, who enjoyed life, enjoyed watching her Yankees, she loved playing pinochle and learning new games as well as spending time at a summer cottage on Keuka Lake. She particularly loved and was proud of her family. She enjoyed all the times that they were able to be together, entertaining them simply by riding them on her rascal, visiting, or just making a meal for them. God kept her on this earth for 101 years in which his grace, love and light shined brightly through her. She is now home and reunited with her God, walking together with her family and friends. Her aches and pains are healed. Frances was predeceased by her husband Delbert, parents Arthur and Ethel Newberry, sister Marion, and many other relatives. She is survived by: Cheryl (David) Heller – Rolesville, NC, Thomas (Christine) Sandwick - Binghamton, NY, Judy (James) Popeck – Edwards, CO, and grandchildren Denelle (Dave) Manley – Wake Forest, NC, Matthew (Tara) Heller – Dripping Springs, TX, Ed Roth – Castle Creek, NY, Jeffrey Sandwick – New Hartford, NY, Brandilyn (Jim) Weed – Binghamton, NY, Kristy Roth (Chris Hill) – Whitney Point, NY and great-grandchildren Paige Manley, Alex Manley, Caitlin Heller, Keegan Heller, Jace Sandwick, Ashton Weed, Nolan Weed, Keaton Weed, and Cody Hill.
