Rev. Eugene B. Jensen, 82, went to his eternal home on January 2, 2021, Gene was a faithful husband, loving father, devoted grandfather, and beloved brother. Gene was born in Binghamton, NY on August 31, 1938. He was predeceased by his parents; Floyd Jensen and Verna Davis and brothers William Cooper, Mike Jensen, and Bob Jensen. Gene is survived by his wife, Phyllis Jensen, sisters Donna (Ron) Briggs, Bonnie (Rich) Clauss, Tina (Ray) Sims, Ann Jensen, sons: Eric (Shelley), Robert, and Douglas, grandchildren: Lauren, Keenan, Elizabeth, Alice and Sean and numerous nephews and nieces. Gene entered the Navy upon graduation from High School serving for 10 years reaching the rank of Photography Mate First Class, stationed at San Francisco, Calif., where he eventually met his wife of 58 years, Phyllis. Upon the start of a family, Gene held various positions in the Fire Department reaching the title of Fire Chief in Eureka, California where later he had an awakening of God’s love for him with the family moving back to Binghamton, NY where he found employment with IBM before accepting the call to enter ordained ministry. He spent close to twenty years serving several churches in NY and PA through the Wyoming and Upper New York Conference of the United Methodist Church. Gene blessed and touched many with his easy style of sharing God’s love in his gentle loving way that touched many. Many people today still recall Gene’s time as their minister with good memories and enriching experiences. He was tall but his voice and actions were kind and always covered in love with a quick sense of humor and warm-hearted stories. Gene loved to help others to see the good, the hopeful and the presence of God in their life. His calming presence, towering faith, and loving and helping heart will be greatly missed. At the family’s request funeral services will be private due to COVID-19 restrictions. Gene will be interred in Chenango Valley Cemetery with full military honors.
