Obituary

Listen to Obituary
Esther Louise Joyce, born on November 23, 1924, went to be with her family in heaven on November 22, 2016.  Esther is survived by her loving family of nieces and nephews – Jack Joyce, Barbara Groover, Gloria Williams, Gary Fowler, David Fowler, Callie Brunelli, Gene Buckley, Jon Buckley, Connie Ackley and Donald Holton and their families.  She was pre-deceased by her mother, father, seven sisters, a brother and several nieces including Cathy-Jo and Laurene Joyce, Linda Warfield, and Jacqueline Pilkington.  Esther was a long time member of First Congregational Church, Binghamton (winter) and Lordville Presbyterian Church, Lordville (summer). She worked at the Triple Cities Traction Company and retired from Cooper, Ackerman and Sampson Insurance Company (Security Mutual). Esther's love for her great-nieces and nephews was endless.  She loved to spend time with them, teaching them things like counting money, how to act if the Queen came to dinner, how to polish silver, wrap packages, and much more. A lucky few even got to sleep on the top bunk in her cottage. Our memories are filled with adventures, picnics, sharing daily readings, especially the "Daily Word", a birthday card, and a tradition of family sweatshirts at Christmas. Christmas Eve supper at her house continued right up until last year. Family, neighbors, and friends in Lordville will remember her as the leader of the "porch ladies", counter of motorcycles, provider of sharpened pencils & paper for games of "Guggenheim", and for all of us a leader in a deep, devoted faith. Her mantra was "Pray constantly" and she wondered aloud how people survive who don't pray. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either First Congregational Church in Binghamton or Lordville Presbyterian Church, mailing address c/o Brunelli, 35 Bouchouxville Rd, Hancock, NY 13783. There will be visiting hours on Sunday, December 11, from 2-4PM at the Ernest H. Parsons Funeral Home 71 Main Street, Binghamton, New York 13905. A Memorial Service will be held at the Lordville Presbyterian Church in the spring and Esther will be laid to rest in the Lord Family Cemetery at that time.  Please visit ParsonsFuneral.Com to offer your condolences.
