Edwin Wrench

d. August 3, 2025

Edwin C. Wrench, age 93, passed away peacefully at Binghamton General Hospital on August 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of his daughter, Regina, son-in-law, Roger, and long-time companion Carole Hagopian. Ed was predeceased by his wife, Beverly, daughter Lucinda, parents Herbert and Mabel, and six older siblings. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Nicole, Brendan, Morgan, and recent great grandson Miles.

Ed was born and raised in Kansas. He was proud to have graduated high school in the top 10, where he was 9th out of 9. A little Ed humor. Sports, basketball and baseball were his priority. His high school summers were spent bailing hay on a farm working for Fred, who he greatly admired. When he was young, Ed enjoyed delivering blocked ice for ice boxes with Uncle George and delivering newspapers.

Ed entered the United States Marine Corps in 1950 and served through 1953. During the Korean war, he was stationed off the coast of Japan on the aircraft carrier USS Bon Homme Richard.

After being discharged, he took radio and TV repair courses at Universal Television Systems in Kansas City, Mo while working at a Chevrolet Car dealership. He later worked in a small TV repair shop in Iola where he met Beverly, his beloved wife for nearly 24 years. Beverly and Ed married in 1956 after dating six months. In 1958, Ed graduated Junior College in Iola. After Junior College he attended K-State briefly. A rough second semester plagued with medical speed bumps and a long-distance marriage, led to a decision to search for a job. In 1959, Ed began a career at IBM in Kansas City, Mo. Ed also enjoyed catching on a men's fast pitch softball recreational team and coaching little league. After a couple moves and birth of his daughters, his family settled in Apalachin in 1970. Ed retired around 1987 from IBM Glendale.

In addition to his family, Ed was blessed with many friends, great neighbors, and wonderful relationships throughout his life. He could befriend strangers in a minute. He was quick to lend a hand, listen, or provide support.

After taking up downhill skiing in his mid-40s, he spent many retired winters downhill skiing at Greek Peak. He also took up windsurfing at Dorchester Park as well as golfing. He had his fishing buddies for St. Lawerence adventures. Ed played several years on a senior volleyball team, including playing in the NY Senior Olympics. He was into racquet ball for a while. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends across the United States, including Kansas family visits, Cayuga lake trips, skiing in Utah and Colorado, southern golf trips, barefoot cruises, an Alaskan cruise, and travel abroad to England, Scotland, Costa Rica, Australia, and South Africa.

Ed relished a great political discussion and was an avid sports fan. Anyone that knew him, knew he was a diehard Kansas City Chiefs fan. He loved college basketball with K-State, being at the top of the many teams he followed. He quickly became an SV Saber sports fan watching his grandchildren's games.

Ed was a member of the Owego VFW Post #1371 where he was passionate about being a funeral honor guard member for many years. He was thrilled to have taken a Veteran's Honor Flight to Washington DC.

Unfortunately, in his 80's, Ed had to give up many of his beloved activities due to his failing eye sight. He continued to endear people, most recently at Brookdale Castle Gardens where he resided for the last year. Thank you to all who cared for him.

Ed will be forever remembered as a man with many talents and interests but most of all, a loving father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Ed, here is one last fist bump for you!
