Edward Shapley, 96, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2017. Ed served his country proudly during WWII as a member of the Mighty 8th. After returning home Ed was a machinist for IBM. He was a longtime member of Hawleyton United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Town of Binghamton Fire Department and active in the Hawleyton Cemetery Associaton. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Nellie Vosburg Shapley. Ed is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and John Zurenda, Hawleyton, Vicki and Richard Fenstermaker, Laurel Fork, Virginia and Lori Mae Shapley, Lexington, Kentucky; treasured grandchildren, Darah and Tony Torres, David and Holly Zurenda, Bonnie and Steve Stone, Kathie and Doug Best, Sallie Fenstermaker, Krista Harris, William and Amanda Harris; great grandchildren, Alisandra Torres, Sydney Torres and Luke Torres, Samantha Stone, Keri Vaughn and Chris Deskins, Alexis and Noah Riley, Kayla Bishop, Caden Bishop and Kyle Harris and great great-grandson Hudson Riley.The family wishes to express their special thanks to Sheila “the Pest” who helped enable Ed to remain in his home a little longer and to Dawn and Martha, two special friends, who were at his side at the time of his passing. They would also thank all those who have become extended family at the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford as they lovingly cared for our Dad over the past three years.Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Hawleyton United Methodist Church, 901 Hawleyton Rd., Binghamton with the Reverend David Piatt officiating. Interment will follow services in the Hawleyton Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Hawleyton United Methodist Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
