Edward M. Gartell
Binghamton, N.Y. – Edward Marshall Gartell, 81, of Binghamton, New York, was a father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He passed away surrounded by family on April 27 at 12:59 p.m.
A practicing attorney for over 45 years in Broome and Delaware Counties, he is grateful to his partners and colleagues and pleased to have been able to serve and assist his many clients and the community through the years. He was a prominent member of the Jewish Community Center, serving as president and an active volunteer for many years thereafter.
Edward was happiest when he was with his children and grandchildren, playing golf, watching sports on TV and spending time with his dogs Goldie and Sammie.
Edward was born and raised in Binghamton, New York and was the son of Max and Ruth Gartell. He attended the University of Buffalo and Brooklyn Law School.
He is survived by his daughters, Kerri Gartell Eng and Julie Gartell Tobin and his son, Michael Wesley Gartell; his sons-in-law Rick Eng and Michael Tobin, and daughter-in-law Emily Eckland Gartell; and the grandchildren he adored, Gabrielle Pearl Eng, Jonah Dean Eng, Zoe Taylor Tobin, Mia Avery Tobin, Zachary Max Gartell, Frankie Grace Gartell, and our newest treasure, Jake Edward Gartell born April 26, 2024, one day prior to Edward's passing.
He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Erin Leigh Leiman, her husband, Ross Leiman, and their children, Jordan Drew Leiman and Miles Parker Leiman.
Edward was preceded in death by his second wife, Celesta, and his first wife and mother of his children, Diane.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2 at Temple Israel Riverside Cemetery, 719 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton, New York 13903. Please also join the family at Jane's Diner, 591 Conklin Avenue to celebrate Edward's life from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
