Edmund VanKuren

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Edmund Patrick VanKuren, age 71, of Binghamton, NY, who departed this life unexpectedly on June 26, 2025. Born in Binghamton, Eddie was the cherished son of the late Stuart F. and Joan A. (VanDerbeck) VanKuren.

Eddie was a beloved older brother and will be sorely missed by his siblings: Dennis (Rose), Brian, Kathleen, Sarah (Rick), Lisa (Clayton), John (Cindi), Allison (Steve), and Susan. His absence will be deeply felt by all his nieces and nephews, as well as by his faithful companion, a little girl known as his cat, who will now be lovingly cared for by his brother John.

A proud veteran, Eddie dedicated an extraordinary 50 years of service as a firefighter with the volunteer companies of Endwell Fire Department, Union Center Fire Company, and Town of Binghamton Volunteer Fire Company, exemplifying bravery and commitment to his community. Additionally, for nearly five decades, he contributed to the sports community as a track umpire, earning the respect and affection of many.

In honoring Eddie's wishes, there will be no services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eddie's memory to the local Firefighters Association in Binghamton, Union Center, or to The Humane Society, reflecting his passions and commitment to service in both the community and to animals.

Eddie's spirit will live on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know him. Let us remember him with fondness and celebrate the joy he brought into our lives.
