Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend David Woodruff, 82, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2022 at his home in Binghamton, New York with his wife Shirley by his side. We are comforted knowing that he went home to be with his Savior. David graduated from Binghamton North High School in 1958, and then went to work for his father’s moving company, Pettis Moving, alongside his brothers Emerson and Paul and brother-in-law Francis “Sonny” Brewer. David then served in the US Army from 1963 – 1965, and was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, where he met Shirley, his soon to be wife. They were wed on July 10, 1965 and shortly after their wedding they moved back to David’s hometown of Binghamton, NY, where they raised their two children Rachel and David. After the military, David continued to work for Pettis Moving Company with his family. Later he drove a feed truck for Blue Seal Feed for several years and then began driving a gasoline tanker truck for Fowler Oil Company and then for Hess until his retirement in 2010. While David was a hardworking, honest, “tell it like it is” man, who made a habit of always doing the right thing, he also had a fun sense of humor and was known to be quick with a joke or funny story. He was also quite the handyman who enjoyed automobile and home repairs and remodeling projects. David was a car enthusiast who enjoyed automobile racing and going to car shows. After retirement, he found a passion for travelling and planning detailed cross-country trips in his motorhome with his wife and dogs. A devout Christian, he was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Binghamton, and then a member of Grace Point Baptist Church in Vestal. David found the most joy in spending time with family, friends and the many faithful dogs he had over the course of his life. David is predeceased by his parents Floyd and Gladys Woodruff, his brothers Richard and Charlie, his sister Roberta Bryant, and his sister and brother-in-law Marlice and Francis Brewer, and his beloved daughter Rachel. David is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley, his son David and his wife Leia, his treasured grandchildren, Devon, Ella, and Mia, his brother Emerson and his wife Phyllis, his brother Paul and his wife Diane, and dearest brother and sister-in-law Don and Colleen Olynick. Along with many nieces and nephews and a large extended family in New York and Colorado, several close and dear friends, and his cherished dogs Cooper and Mellie. Services will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday June 11, 2022, at the DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton, NY. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 pm until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in David’s name may be made to a charity of your choice.
