Dane Burwell was born on September 1, 1954 in Binghamton, NY, to Fred L. Burwell, Jr. and Hilda Burwell. Dane Matthew Burwell, 71, passed away on December 13, 2025, in Seattle, WA
Dane was born and raised in Binghamton, NY and he graduated Binghamton high school in 1973. He joined the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war. He served as a Securities Specialist and Guard. He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in 1977, in Great Falls, MT.
He was a dedicated public servant. In 1985, Dane moved to California, when he was offered a Meat Inspector position with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) from which he retired in 1998. He returned to his roots in Binghamton and he contributed to his community through his role as a preschool teacher for the YMCA of Broome County and coaching youth basketball and youth football teams. Dane was a devoted caregiver to his family, particularly his mom, Hilda and great-nephew, Zion Burwell, which reflected his love and commitment to those around him.
Dane's life was filled with a love for family. He cherished preparing unforgettable meals that honored his mother's traditions. Dane was a passionate supporter of sports teams, including the Oakland and Las Vegas Raiders, and the Los Angeles Lakers, and the New York Yankees. He also enjoyed playing recreational basketball, racquetball and riding his bike around town. He found joy in attending outdoor festivals, and going to the movies. He especially loved jazz and was proud to watch his grandson's jazz performances.
Dane lived with an enduring spirit and a positive attitude, approaching life with confidence, resilience and humor. He was stubborn and he didn't get weighed down by the troubles of the day. He had a care free attitude. His infectious smile made everyone around him believe, with him, that everything would be fine. He loved a good joke and could find the humor in most situations. Even when things got tough he led with a quiet strength.
Dane is survived by his daughter Andra Kranzler, grandson Donovon Kranzler-Lewis, brother Eric Anderson, sister-in-law Rhonda Anderson, sister-in-law Ailene Anderson (David Anderson), and sister-in-law Iris Anderson (Edward Anderson Jr.), Davida Dadamio (cousin-sister) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and laughter.
Dane will be remembered for his infectious smile and ability to find joy in every moment, forever leaving a mark on the hearts of those who knew him.
