Coleen Weiss passed from this life into the next with her family that she loved so much by her side on August 10, 2022. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Robert R. Weiss, Jr., her daughters and sons-in-law Kelly Weiss and Christopher McLain and Jennifer and David Wilkins, grandson Jonah Chambers and his girlfriend Jordan McGinnis, sister Sharon Dayton Goff, brother Russell LaBarre and many cherished brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Coleen is predeceased by her mother and step-father, Stella and Don LaBarre and brother Chuck LaBarre. Coleen loved the Lord with all her heart, soul and mind. She loved to crotchet, knit and watch the New York Yankees. Coleen was a voracious reader of books, she enjoyed spending time near any body of water and baking her famous pies for others. She absolutely loved being surrounded by flowers. Her most favorite memories were of the birth of both of her daughters, her wedding day, and any day spent with Jonah. She was a graduate of Susquehanna Valley, and attended both Broome Community College and State University of New York at Cortland. She taught Special Education in Vanceboro, NC before returning to Conklin, New York were she spent 38 years serving the students at SV Middle School and Brookside Elementary. She was not just their librarian but also their friend, confidant and cheerleader as well. She was especially fond of the 28 years that she spent working with middle school aged students. Coleen battled long and hard and survived 4 years past her life expectancy after being diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome. In her final chapter she taught us much about perseverance, grace, never ending hope and to never give up on what we believe in. She was a beautiful wife, wonderful mother and excellent friend. We are all better for having her in our lives. Heaven is a better place having gained her as a resident. Our family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at both Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY for the last six years as well as the wonderful team of doctors, nurses and support staff at Wilson Memorial Hospital for the last 21 days as they worked hard to make her as comfortable as possible in her transition. We also want to send enormous gratitude to all of the friends, family and neighbors who have been here to support all of us through the years of Coleen’s journey. We couldn’t have done this without any of you. Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Monday, August 15, 2022 at the Hawleyton United Methodist Church, 901 Hawleyton Road, Binghamton with the Reverend Mary Jean Simonin officiating.
