Christina Louise Nugent

d. November 4, 2020

Christina Louise Nugent passed away peacefully in her sleep to be with her Lord on November 4, 2020. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 7, 1934 to an artist, eclectic mother Ethel Louise Bates Breckenridge and a free thinker, hardworking father Arthur George Schade. Her childhood was formed by her love of listening to the radio and great classical music and becoming independently involved in the Presbyterian church. She would go on to involve her younger sisters in every week's services until she left this home to live with her father and her then beloved stepmother, Jane Miller Schade. On September 6, 1952 she married Gerald (Jerry) M. Nugent and together they would celebrate 55 years of marriage. Chris was a loving mother to her children, James Edward, David Arthur, and Mary Louise. Each US Fish and Wildlife post that Jerry was assigned to over the many years was met with an ability to pack a household within a week, move kids, pets and household and immediately begin brandishing a paint brush on the tired, old government properties they had been assigned to live in. She was tireless. Chris received training following high school in secretarial skills and worked throughout her life in various positions with different practices. Her favorites were working in a Law firm in Arvada, CO with her dear friends Val Moritis and Fred Schrekinger and working as a bookkeeper at Weaver's Dive and Travel with her close friend Steve Weaver. After Chris and Jerry turned 50, they turned to the beautiful world of scuba diving and shared their love of travel and the underwater world for close to 20 years together. The friends they made! They included all of their children into these adventures, eventually extending this love to their grandchildren. Chris's dearest love was her grandchildren, Adam Arthur, Cara Marie, Casey Lynn and Emily Jane. Her devotion and wish was for her grandkids to know and love each other as they grew, and Chris made sure each year opportunities were made to gather the group and share adventures together. These are cherished times. Chris is predeceased by her parents, her husband, her siblings, Mary, Martha, and Scott. She is survived by her sister Diana Horan. Her childrenwill grieve her passing. James, David (Heather) and Mary (Steve Goldenberg) and her grandchildren, Adam (Andrea), Cara, Casey and Emily. She will be missed and mourned by her special friends Shelly Sartor and Laura Verlander. Countless friends will miss her laugh and her sweet kindness. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to The National Presbyterian Church, 4101 Nebraska Ave NW, Washington, DC 20016 or https://ppay.co/GnQw25h7FXk. Chris loved live streaming church services when she moved to New York to live with Mary three years ago and grew to love this church or to the National Wildlife Refuge Association – refugeassociation.org (note: they have a donation list provided. On the second page you can provide “In Memory Of”). To forward condolences please visit www.demunn.com. Arrangements for the family are directed by the DeMunn Funeral Home.
