Charles Roy Hadley

d. August 4, 2021

After several months of declining health, Charles “Charlie” Roy Hadley passed away peacefully on August 4, 2021, at the age of 88. Charles joined his wife Mary Lou in heaven after 66 years of marriage. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather of two and great-grandfather of three. Charles retired from New York Telephone/Verizon after 35 years of service, and then enjoyed many wonderful years at their summer home in Thousand Island Park, NY, a family cottage in Canada, and many summers, on their boat in the St. Lawrence River. Charles was a U.S. Army veteran, of the Korean War era, serving in Austria and New York City. After retirement, he devoted his free time to his grandsons, helping family members, friends, his church, and volunteering for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was always willing to help anyone in need and often put his electrical, plumbing and other construction skills to work. For over 20 years, he continued all of this while caring for his wife, who had suffered a paralyzing stroke. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Mary Lou Fitch Hadley, parents Harold V. Hadley and Wilma (Gage) Hadley, his brother, Harold Hadley Jr., and sister, Betty Jane (Hadley) Snyder. Charles is survived by sons Mark Hadley of Lisle, and Jeff Hadley of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, grandsons, Justin Hadley and Jared Hadley, both of Cocoa, Florida, great-grandchildren, Sailor, Sadie and Nash Hadley, niece Lisa (and Barry) Winters, Endicott, Russell (and Michelle) Fitch, Johnson City, sister-in-law Irene Fitch, Binghamton, as well as extended family and friends. Funeral Services will be held 12:00 pm, Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton with the Reverend Matthew Kennedy, of the Anglican Church of Good Shepherd, officiating. Interment will follow services in Chenango Valley Cemetery, Hillcrest. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the time of services.
