Barbara J. Fender

Barbara J. Fender passed away unexpectedly Tuesday March 24, 2026. She was born May 13, 1940 in Binghamton, New York. She was predeceased by her husband Donald Fender, parents Harry and Rose Sall and sisters and brother-in-law, Deanna and Irwin Isert and Linda Sall.

Barbara is survived by her children; Betsy and Louie Remza, Alan and Theresa Fender, Shaune and Dale Strong, Carole and Billy VanKuren, Scott and Lisa Robinson, Tami and Lee Robinson-Rindgen, grandchildren; Joseph Strong, Andrew and Victoria Strong, Brian and Jasmine McCarthy, Britni and Andrew McNaughtan, Ryan and Karee Remza, Jessica Remza, Jordan and Reva Rindgen, Corey and Megan Robinson, Molly and James Robinson, Bryan and Malynda Fender, Laura Fender, Nicholas and Sydney VanKuren, Amy and Mark Walker. She also leaves behind seventeen beloved great-grandchildren. She loved all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all her heart.

Barbara dedicated many years of her life working in Social Services with the Family and Children's Division, where she touched the lives of countless families in the Binghamton area. Her compassion and commitment to helping others were hallmarks of her character.

An avid fan of the New York Rangers and the New York Yankees, Barbara found joy in cheering for her teams watching games together with her family. She had a deep appreciation for nature, and was often found bird watching or delighting in the wildlife just outside her back door. Barbara enjoyed riding horses, a passion that allowed her to connect with the beauty of the great outdoors. Barbara was a proud member of the Board of Elections.

Barbara welcomed everyone into her home, turning them into her family. Her warmth and kindness left a lasting imprint on the hearts of all who knew her. She loved the thrill of visiting casinos, where she pressed her luck and embraced the excitement of winning. Her infectious spirit was often seen at local hockey games, where she enthusiastically cheered on her team.

Barbara's legacy will live on through her children and the many lives she touched. A celebration of her life will be held with family and friends gathering, united in their love and remembrance of this remarkable woman.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm, Sunday, March 29, 2026 at the DeMunn Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 36 Conklin Avenue Binghamton with Rabbi Rachel Esserman officiating. Interment will follow services in Temple Israel Cemetery, 719 Conklin Road, Conklin. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the services. Barbara's parents were founding members of the Broome Tioga ARC, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barbara's name may be made to ACHIEVE, 125 Cutler Pond Road, Binghamton, NY 13905.
