Arthur R. Melville, Jr., 64, died suddenly at his home, Saturday, June 24, 2017. Art was a great storyteller, nicknamed “The Truth” by many who knew him. He was a big-hearted loving and caring man with a genuine smile. The center of Art’s life was his three beloved daughters and treasured grandchildren and close four-legged companion, Daisy. Art was born and raised in Binghamton, a graduate of Binghamton North High School and Broome Tech. In his younger years, he was a lifeguard at the Ramaqua Club which led to his radio station WART. Many will remember the “June Day Jams” hosted by the Melville brothers which required the Binghamton Police Department closing down two streets for this annual event. The only one not pleased by the community block party was Marion, the Melville matriarch. He retired after 40 years with the D & H Railroad where he was a Foreman. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, bowling, reading and sharing a “Bud” with his friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Marion Melville, Sr. as well as several aunts and uncles. Art is survived by his daughters; Elizabeth (Jeromy) Furman, Chenango Forks, Melissa (James) Scoville, Binghamton, and Rose (Steve) Hrncirek, Binghamton and their mother, Teresa Henehan, Binghamton, treasured grandchildren; Barbara, Dylan, Audrey, Vincent, Camden and Lilliana. He leaves behind sisters; Carol (John) Roscigno, Yonkers, Susan (Alan) Blythe, Chenango Bridge, brother, Anthony (Lynne) Melville, East Maine, aunt Ann Root, Binghamton, lifelong friends, Bob and Spud and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
