Allene "Debbie" Carns, 89, of Hillcrest, New York, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, at the New York State Veterans' Home in Oxford, surrounded by her loving family.

Debbie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Francis Carns, and her parents, Kenneth and Elizabeth Kendall.

She is survived by her son, David Hill and his wife, Patricia; her daughter, Laura Mitchell and her husband, Scott; her stepchildren, John and Patti Carns, Laurette Carns, and Geoff Carns. Debbie was a proud and devoted grandmother to Corinne Hill, Cara Hill, Alec Mitchell, Pierce Mitchell, and step-grandchildren Jake, Luke and Payton Carns. Being a mother and grandmother brought her immense joy.

For more than 30 years, Debbie dedicated herself to educating young minds as an elementary school teacher in the Susquehanna Valley Central School District. She enjoyed gardening, reading, knitting, scrapbooking, taking walks, and the furry companions that she had throughout her life.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of the New York State Veterans' Home in Oxford for the exceptional care and kindness they provided to Debbie. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
