Thomas Jonathan Butler, 26, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on January 10, 2010 while attending a family vacation in Orlando, Fl. Tom will be remembered for his great sense of humor. He excelled at pulling people’s legs with practical jokes. He loved being with his family and friends.
Thomas was born in Enid, Ok. on September 7, 1983, the son of Lindsay W. Butler III and Anne M. Butler. During his first years, he lived in Colorado Springs, Co., Freehold, NJ, Westerville, Oh. and Conyers, Ga. where he graduated from Salem High School. After high school, he attended Emory University and earned a B.S. in Biology. At the time of his death, Thomas was a graduate student in Epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, expecting a Masters’ degree in spring 2010.
While in middle and high school, Tom was an avid soccer player, and active in church activities. He enjoyed travelling, visiting Japan, Germany, England and Australia. In college, he participated in debate and the sailing team. During summers, he worked with Binghamton’s Summer Savoyards, and was awarded the first Peter and Lilo Reese Scholarship for his participation in the group.
He is survived by his parents, Lindsay and Anne Butler, Brackney, Pa., brother, James Butler, Binghamton, his maternal grandmother, Mary June McKechnie, Binghamton, aunt and uncles; Robert and Debbie Butler, Calhoun, Ga. and Jane and Mark Galbreath, Odenton, Md. and several cousins.
A Celebration of Thomas’ life will be held 10:00 AM, January 23, 2010 in Silver Lake Presbyterian Church, WilkesBarre Turnpike, Brackney Pa.
