Beloved mother and grandmother, Phyllis McGavin, 87, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016. Phyllis’ life revolved around her family with whom she loved spending time with at the beach and camping. She was predeceased by her husband Hubert “Hugh” McGavin, parents, Frederick and Bessie Lofstrom. Phyllis is survived by her children, Deborah McGavin and Millie Montgomery, Janice and Jan Yuricek, Endicott, Phillip and Rose McGavin, Rolesville, North Carolina, Sharon and Mark Vitanza, Conklin and Marcia and Stephen Valenti, Binghamton; treasured grandchildren, Ryan, Jeff and Peter Yuricek, Amanda and Shawne Macleod, April and Tim Gallagher, Jason Vitanza, Elizabeth Vitanza and fiancée Alex Moy, Zachary, Lauren, Chloe and Joey Danvers, Christian and Angela Valenti and great-granddaughter, Keely Macleod. She was a lifelong member of Saints John and Andrew Church and an active member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. The family would like to thank the staff of Elizabeth Church Manor’s Second Floor for all they have done for Phyllis the years she resided in their devoted care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by The Reverend Monsignor Michael Meagher, 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Saints John and Andrew RC Church, 1263 Vestal Avenue, Binghamton. Interment will follow services in Calvary Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Tuesday, April 19, 2016.
