Juanita May Burgess Homer died at the age of 93 at James G. Johnston Memorial Nursing Home at Johnson City, New York on February 22, 2016. She was born in Johnson City, New York on April 12, 1922, the eldest daughter of Lowell Rodney Burgess and Ruth Barnum Burgess. She graduated from Johnson City High School in 1939. Juanita married Vincent H. Homer, Sr. on May 9, 1942. Vinnie and Nita were lifetime residents of the area living for several years in Vestal and then over 45 years in their dream home at Lake Sophia in Brackney, PA. The couple traveled extensively, touring 35 foreign countries, RVing throughout the USA and for several years enjoyed wintering in Naples, FL. They were members of the ballroom dance clubs, Cotillion Cadence and Let’s Dance and were volunteers at Salt Springs Park. Nita was employed by Ansco/GAF for 38 years. Juanita is preceded in death by her husband, Vincent H. Homer, Sr. She is survived by her son, Vincent H. Homer, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Sandra, of Independence, OR; sister, Elaine Johnson of Vestal, NY; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Lacey Jones of Gouveneur, NY; sister, Ila Jean Popple of Gainesville, FL; sister-in-law, Tamara Homer of Morristown, NJ; brother-in-law, Gerald Homer of Cheyenne, WY; 3 step-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren, all of CA, and numerous loving nieces and nephews. At Juanita’s request, funeral services will be private. Memorial contributions in Juanita’s name may be made to Friends of Salt Springs Park, P.O. Box 541, Montrose, PA 18801.
