Obituary of Rosemarie HenkleOur beloved mother, Rosemarie A. Henkle died peacefully at the on June 9, 2015. She was born in Boston on December 9, 1937. Known as Rosie, she was the daughter of Durante and Helen Kurkier Simpler of Wilmington, De and Wakefield Mass. She married the love of her life of William M. Henkle of Lewiston, Pa in 1957. Rosemarie came to Binghamton New York from Boston following her husband to a new career as a technical writer for Singer Link Flight Simulation Company in the early 1960s. The family story, supported by our father was to get Rosie to Upstate New York was to describe Binghamton, New York as an area just like the Song of Music only on the East Coast. Rosemarie became an art and music icon for the area for over 30 years. Rosemarie as a mother work as a librarian for St. John’s Evangelist School, but was specifically known as a local artist. She was the box office manager for the Tri-cities Opera, Binghamton Philharmonic, worked at Binghamton Better Business, Binghamton Opera Company, Farmers Market, Roberson Center for Arts and Science specifically expending the Holiday and the Christmas Forest, the Forum, First Night, the Fine Arts Society, Rosemarie Henkle Music Library Fundraiser, Binghamton Chamber of Commerce. Rosmarie started from a small collection of local artists a program that would be called Julyfest and would run for over 20 years within the Broome County area. Rosemarie and Bill had the license plate to prove it. Rosemarie was instrumental in bringing Billy Martin and Vincent Price to specific events, and made these programs known throughout the east coast. Rosie not only organized and supported these events, but she was known not only to include her own children, but her friends and their children in as stevedores or ushers during “the season”. Rosie was not only proud of her accomplishments, but that of her children and grandchildren. Rosemarie is survived by her children; SSGT Theodore “Ted”, USAF-Ret, and Janet Henkle of Washington State, LCDR Terance, USN-Ret, and Claudia Henkle of Gales Ferry, CT, Roxanne Henkle of Jacksonville, Fla, Roberta and Eric Shwarz of Gardiner, NY, and AWOC Erika and ADCS Peter Carbone USN-Ret, of Jacksonville, FLA; treasured grandchildren, Anthony Carbone, Sarah Henkle, Danielle Henkle, Monika Henkle, Zackary Schwarz, Steven Schwarz and Gianna Carbone. . She leaves behind nephews, Billy Simpler, Hal Myer and Joey (Kathleen) Simpler, cousins, John and Pat Thulin and Patricia and Robert Pappagilanopolaus and her childhood friend, Terry Mason. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00am, Friday, June 12, 2015 at Saints John and Andrew RC Church, 1163 Vestal Avenue, Binghamton by the Reverend Monsignor Michael T. Meagher. Family will receive friends at the DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton from 4:00 until 7:00 pm, Thursday, June 11, 2015.
