Sylvia "Katie" Scarantino

April 1, 1920 — February 18, 2015

Sylvia "Katie" Scarantino, 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 18, 2014. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Joseph Scarantino and son-in-law, Norm French. She is survived by her three children; Charlie and Judy Scarantino of Binghamton; Angie French of Vestal; and Pete and Maxine Scarantino of Binghamton; five grandchildren, Charlie and Linda Scarantino, Nick and Lori Scarantino, Denise and Lou McAllister, Derek and Pearl French, and Michael Scarantino; her six great-grandchildren, Maggie and Matt McAllister, Jordan and Gianna Scarantino, and Logan and Brody French; sister, Mary Zaremski of Pittston, PA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Katie was born on April 1, 1920 and grew up in Pittston, PA. She moved to Conklin to raise her family in 1953. Katie was a loving wife; mother and grandmother who loved to cook and care for her family. She was a long time member of St. Andrew's church. Katie enjoyed playing rummy with family and friends and always had her penny jar ready to play Pokeno at every holiday celebration. She was actively involved with the Conklin Seniors where she enjoyed traveling on bus trips, going to luncheons, riding in the parades, and participating in the yearly community show at SVHS. When she wasn't making soup, pasta, or pizzelles, Katie spent her free time crocheting, reading and doing word searches. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers, Sandy and Diane, and to the staff of 2S at Willow Point Nursing Home for the compassionate care that Katie received. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am, Monday, February 23, 2015 at Saints John and Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 1263 Vestal Avenue, Binghamton by the Reverend Monsignor Michael T. Meagher. Interment will follow services in Saint Rocco’s Cemetery, Pittston, Pennsylvania. Katie’s family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 am until the time of services.
